Artist Statement
Andrea Grimsley
Contrast is the language of the eye. It informs every level of our sensory experience. My work is inspired by the shifting values, chroma and form that create the alchemy of emotional response. I view my work as an opportunity to capture a moment in time, a subtle nuance or an irrevocably powerful experience.
Abstract Expressionism and impressionism generally inform my technique. My work employs bold strokes, sweeping movement and the delicate balance between positive and negative space. I work primarily in oils, the luminous quality of the medium and its fidelity to brush work makes it a satisfying choice for my painting style.
